Overview

Ten days immersed in the rich history and beauty of Sicily. You will explore extraordinary archaeological sites and historic cities in the hands of exceptional guides.  Sicily is also a place of great natural beauty — you'll enjoy the island's spectacular scenery culminating in a visit to Mount Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano.  Sicily’s unique culinary and winemaking traditions will also be a focus, with a cooking demonstration, wine tasting, and delectable meals at local trattorias. Giovanna Chiti, owner of Discover my Italy and a native Italian, will be your host throughout the entire trip.

Day 1 - Welcome to Palermo
Wednesday, April 18



Palermo

Late morning: Arrival in Palermo. Meet your tour director, Tommaso Panté, and your host, Giovanna Chiti, owner of Discover my Italy. Transfer to Palermo city center. Check-in at your 4-star hotel, your home for the next three nights. Enjoy an orientation walk of Palermo with Tommaso.

Evening: Welcome dinner at a local trattoria.

 

Day 2 - Palermo, Sicily’s Beautiful Capital City
Thursday, April 19




Piazza Pretoria & Palermo's Cathedral

Morning:  Walking tour of Palermo center with local, licensed guide:
• Church of San Domenico (exterior)
• The “Quattor Canti”
• La Martorana Church
• Piazza Pretoria
• Church of San Giuseppe dei Teatini
• Palermo's Cathedral

Afternoon: Spend the rest of the day exploring Palermo on your own.

We suggest a visit to the Palatine Chapel or the “Capo” Market, one of the oldest markets of Arab origins.

Evening: Dinner on your own.

 

Day 3 - Palermo-Monreale–Segesta-Palermo
Friday, April 20




Moreale Cloister & Segesta Amphitheater

Morning: Depart south of Palermo for Monreale. Discover the Byzantine beauty, Norman splendor and Arab symmetry of Monreale's medieval Cathedral with its beautiful Benedictine Cloister.

Lunch: On your own.
Afternoon: Depart from Monreale to Segesta, where you will visit the temple of Segesta, one of the best preserved Greek temples in the world.
Late afternoon: Return to Palermo.
Evening: Dinner on your own.

Day 4 - Palermo-Agrigento

Temple of Juno, Valley of the Temples

Morning: Depart for Agrigento.
Afternoon: Walking tour with specialized guide of the Valley of the Temples.  Explore the most outstanding examples of Greek architecture:

• Temple of Zeus
• Temple of Juno
• Temple of Corcordia

Evening: Dinner at a local trattoria.

Day 5 - Piazza Armerina - Caltagirone -Syracuse
Sunday, April 22



Mosaics from Villa Romana del Casale

Morning: Depart for Agrigento to Piazza Armerina. Walking tour of the Villa Romana del Casale with an expert local guide. The Villa Romana del Casale is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, containing the richest, largest and most complex collection of late Roman mosaics in the world.
Lunch: On your own.

Afternoon: Depart for Syracuse with en route stop in Calagirone, famous for the production of ceramics.
Evening: Arrival in Syracuse. Check-in at your 4-star hotel for 3 nights. Dinner: at a local trattoria.

Day 6 - The historic city of Syracuse
Monday, April 23




Syracuse's archeological site


Morning: Visit Syracuse's archeological site with a local guide. Syracuse is famous for its rich Greek history, culture, amphitheatres and architecture. Return to Syracuse center for lunch on your own.

Afternoon: Walking tour of the Island of Ortigia, the heart and historical center of Syracuse.
Evening: Dinner on your own.

 

Day 7 - Syracuse-Noto-Ragusa-Syracuse
Tuesday, April 24




Saint George Cathedral in Rabusa Ibla

 

Morning: Visit Ragusa Ibla, one of the most important examples of Baroque architecture.
Lunch: On your own.
Afternoon: Visit beautiful Noto, renowned for the harmony of its Baroque style and today declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Both tours will be conducted by our guide, Tommaso Panté.
Late afternoon: Return to Syracuse.
Evening: Dinner on your own.

Day 8 - Syracuse-Taormina
Wednesday, April 25

Morning: Depart for Taormina with en route stop for a private lunch with cooking presentation in the countryside near Catania.
Afternoon: Arrival in Taormina,  “a corner of paradise” as described by Goethe. Check-in at your 4-star Hotel, your home for the next 3 nights.
Evening: Dinner on your own.

Morning: Excursion to Mount Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano, with Tommaso as your guide.
Afternoon: Lunch and wine tasting. 

Spend the rest of the day at leisure in Taormina. 
Evening: Farewell dinner at a local trattoria.
